We all like bars. We all like kitchens. These two things equal intoxicating libations and delicious food, consequently leading to good times.
We also know how fast our food scene has become in the last 5 years and it isn’t stopping anytime soon. This is a good thing for all of us who enjoy supporting local talent, eating good food and never stepping foot in chain restaurants.
Late next week, the founders of Spice of Life Catering Co. will open their first restaurant at 5800 Detroit Avenue in the D-Sho (Detroit-Shoreway) neighborhood. Located in the former Snickers/Cheddars/Crazy Mac’s/La Boca/Roseangel/La Boca space, Spice Kitchen+Bar will feature local, seasonally-inspired food and drink. Not only will this location serve as a hip restaurant, but guests will also have the opportunity to purchase prepared foods at the storefront. But there’s more! Spice will also feature their very own gardens, filled with ingredients which will ultimately end up in your savory meal. And to top it off, guests will also be able to enjoy a future rooftop patio over-looking Lake Erie.
Another new eatery is on it’s way — but we’ll have to wait a little while longer before we step foot in this restaurant. There isn’t much information online, but once Black Dog Kitchen & Bar starting following me on Twitter, I had to do a little digging. No exact location has been set, but Black Dog Kitchen & Bar is slated to open this June/July in Ohio City. From my understanding, they will feature modern American grub with an emphasis on creative tacos, burgers and sandwiches. Make sure to check out their initial menu on their Facebook page.
Here’s to more great food in our fantastic city! Let’s go 2012!
I really enjoy long weekends. Especially when they involve holidays that include stuffing your face with stuffing. *Random thought — why is there no restaurant establishment and/or chain named “That’s the Stuff” where all kinds and variations of stuffing are served, 24/7?
It was a very relaxing (yet busy) weekend filled with family and friends that never cease to amaze me. Let’s recap this bullet point style, yo!
there is rarely a time that i pass up a dinner invite. and thanks to janet (ms. jackson, if you’re nasty), i was able to attend the media preview at dragonfly last week.
dragonfly you ask? yes, they have been open for over a year, but this week unveiled a more refined menu and reconfigured interior.
thanks in part to marlin kaplan and the usual suspects (jeff a. and adam w.), we are now treated too a new “asian-fusion” vibe. look out for additional seafood creations and other modern plates while the class-act cocktail list stays put.
the interior has also been revamped a bit, specifically in the main dining room where the bar stools have been converted to standard height chairs and tables. visually, the room appears larger and feels more like an actual restaurant space while maintaining the lounge design aesthetic.
make sure to check out the new dragonfly next time you are in the w.25th area!
as i am writing this, my mind is still somewhat fuzzy from the past three nights. but i need to get back on track. so let’s go last week of april!
friday night we met up with our friend robbie and his friend jay for some burgers and such at heck’s cafe in ohio city. we then continued on to the pl pad for some drinks before heading back out. continued on to three other adult beverage clubs (maybe that’s what the “abc” in abc tavern stands for!) and definitely should have stopped after the second stop. in the words of b. zone, we were all most definitely “over served.” i kind of don’t remember latter parts of the night. whoops.
on saturday i worked with the ski family on our colburn house project. i am glad to be working on house remodeling projects, as my dad is teaching me a little of this and a little of that. it will def come in handy for my own home repair projects. that night, the nug and i went to a b-day party for kate and jennie at kate’s new condo in rocky river. great place. great people. good times.
on a side note, i can’t help myself when buying friends childish b-day gifts. i bought them a goodie bag with dum dum pops, plastic jewelery, swirly straws, hats and over-sized cards with unicorns and princess paraphernalia. why not?
ended with a sunday full of cleaning and prepping for a lee fisher house party. friends and family came to show their support for lee and his run for senate. more good times with good people. remember to vote! the night ended late and once again…one too many.
